"Of Two Minds" 9" x 10" ink and soft pastel on paper, Gwen Duda, ©2017

With a firm foundation in realism my work has evolved into nature-inspired abstract expressionism which captures the evocative immediacy of that which flows through me, what I am trying to express, communicate and/or capture.

I find acrylics to be a great medium to convey the texture, energy, and spontaneity of the moods that are invoked by nature; be it a glorious radiant summer day, the magnificent vibrational quiet in the air around a majestic mountain or the rushing and breaking of waves on an endless beach shoreline.

Along with acrylics, oils also have their use in luminously capturing ethereally vivid scenes and subjects. Both mediums aid me in describing the moment that I am seizing or trying to express in a tangible, physical, evocative form. I
utilize other media as well including; acrylic, oil, watercolour, gouache, pastel both dry and oil, charcoal, conte, and graphite and a diversity of substrates; watercolour paper, birch panel, composite panel, canvas, paper, and concrete.

All of nature, that within us and without, is my inspiration as I use all my senses to tune in to that which is the life force of not only all life on this planet, but throughout the universe and beyond.
