Hot GalaxyThis original acrylic and watercolour ink painting on paper is an explosion of colour, that seems like the universe itself, birthing light and hues and pulsating in a hot palette. It measures 22 3/8" x 16" and was started without any preconceived idea of what it would or should be. Since it is fall now, it's no surprise that the colours are not just warm but hot and brilliant as I am influenced by the environment I find myself in. But there's more to it. When I finished the piece, it did strike me as a piece that expresses heat, change, agitation even. Things are speeding up, getting warmer, hotter, and forces won't be held back. It seems to mimic or make visual what many people are feeling about the world and the escalating climate threat. There's hope and a possible triumph, but will things go up in flames instead? We will see.
Working from a colourist's perspective I continue to experiment with palettes to see how much more energy and aliveness I can bring to the work. I am also researching more ways to make my studio and the art that is produced in it more eco-friendly, focusing on harm reduction and elimination in my methods and materials. size: 22 3/8 (apprx 56 cms) x 16 inches (40.64 cms) medium: acrylic and watercolour inks paper: watercolour paper. |
